I am cheered by the origins of the word “jazz” among the playing fields and dives of early 20th Century San Francisco. I had just assumed that the word originated somewhere in the South sometime in the 19th Century.

But No! “Jazz” is a West Coast word. For West Coast energy! Another reason to miss the baseball Seals (who played long seasons early on).
