What happened to the children of Hamelin, a town (current population about 57,000) in what is today the German state of Lower Saxony (<span lang=\"de\" xml:lang=\"de\">Niedersachsen)?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A June 2010 <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131208111608\/http:\/\/www.forteantimes.com\/features\/articles\/3805\/the_lost_children_of_hamelin.html\">article in the <em>Fortean Times <\/em><\/a>by Maria Cuervo summarized various possible explanations; <a href=\"https:\/\/mjpcuervo.com\/2015\/03\/06\/lost-children-of-hamelin\/\">Cuervo reprints it in a more readable format on her blog here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Years ago I read a science-fiction story of explorers coming to another planet and finding a human community who built their houses in a vaguely medieval German style.
