{"id":796,"date":"2007-01-20T04:51:00","date_gmt":"2007-01-20T04:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=796"},"modified":"2007-01-20T04:51:00","modified_gmt":"2007-01-20T04:51:00","slug":"greek-pagans-press-for-temple-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=796","title":{"rendered":"Greek Pagans Press for Temple Access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a long struggle and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wildhunt.org\/2006\/03\/greeks-free-to-worship-old-gods-back.html\">some victories<\/a> in their quest for religious freedom, contemporary Greek Pagans continue to seek the right to worship the old gods in the temples that were built for them.<\/p>\n<p>Now it is the turn of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/world\/wire\/sns-ap-greece-ancient-gods,1,7757793.story?coll=sns-ap-world-headlines&#038;ctrack=1&#038;cset=true\">Temple of Zeus in Athens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;These are our temples and they should be used by followers of our religion,&#8221; said Doreta Peppa, head of the Athens-based Ellinais, a group campaigning to revive the ancient religion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Peppa&#8217;s group, dedicated to reviving worship of the 12 ancient gods, was founded last year and won a court battle for official state recognition of the ancient Greek religion.<\/p>\n<p>Those who seek to revive the ancient Greek religion are split into rival organizations which trade insults over the Internet. Peppa&#8217;s group is at odds with ultra-nationalists who view a revival as a way to protect Greek identity from foreign influences.<\/p>\n<p>They can&#8217;t even agree on a name for the religion: One camp calls it Ancient-Religion, another Hellenic Religion.<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a long struggle and some victories in their quest for religious freedom, contemporary Greek Pagans continue to seek the right to worship the old gods in the temples that were built for them.
