{"id":7362,"date":"2015-07-30T09:34:20","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T15:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=7362"},"modified":"2015-07-30T09:35:28","modified_gmt":"2015-07-30T15:35:28","slug":"irish-druids-now-officially-indigenous-they-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=7362","title":{"rendered":"Irish Druids Now Officially &#8220;Indigenous&#8221; \u2014\u00a0They Say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.celticdruidtemple.com\/uploads\/2\/0\/0\/7\/20074727\/1395427677.png?resize=318%2C110\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"110\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.celticdruidtemple.com\/news\/archives\/06-2015\">That is how the Celtic Druid Temple frames government recognition as an &#8220;official charity.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Celtic Druid Temple is a full member of the World Druid Order and now has legal and formal recognition in Ireland as a religious charity with a CHY number 20684 issued by the Dept of Finance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I assume that is roughly equivalent to an American religious group getting 501(c)3 status as a tax-exempt nonprofit group.<\/p>\n<p>To these Irish Druids, there are larger implications:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Celtic Druid Temple is now recognised by the Irish Government as Ireland\u2019s indigenous religious tradition with Nature as the Supreme Being. Nature based spirituality has once again achieved full recognition in Ireland after a lapse of many centuries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Indigenous<\/em>. Does that word mean what you think it means? I have seen some (mostly white) academics twist themselves into knots to explain why they themselves cannot be &#8220;indigenous.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some of them argue that you have to have been colonized by an outside power to be &#8220;indigenous.&#8221; The Irish would have a lightning-quick comeback to that.<\/p>\n<p>And some of my English Pagan friends say, &#8220;What about the Romans?
