{"id":7333,"date":"2015-07-14T17:16:49","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T23:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=7333"},"modified":"2015-07-14T21:58:50","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T03:58:50","slug":"pagans-rebuild-after-the-sockeye-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=7333","title":{"rendered":"Pagans Rebuild after the Sockeye Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a volunteer firefighter who also has had to evacuate myself three times in ten years because of forest fires, I am pretty accustomed to media coverage of such catastrophic events.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ktuu.com\/news\/news\/one-thing-left-standing-after-willow-wildfire-an-outhouse\/34113350#\">This one from Channel 2 in Anchorage is pretty normal : &#8220;One thing left standing after Willow wildfire: an outhouse.&#8221;<\/a> And yet it is about a Pagan retreat center. So the &#8220;news&#8221; to me is that this particular loss and rebuilding is treated as unexceptional, and the Pagans come across as everyday Alaskans, not as weirdos.<\/p>\n<p>About that outhouse \u2014 maybe it survived because it was geometrically simple and did not catch embers.
