{"id":716,"date":"2006-09-10T20:01:00","date_gmt":"2006-09-10T20:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=716"},"modified":"2006-09-10T20:01:00","modified_gmt":"2006-09-10T20:01:00","slug":"nostradamus-and-9-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=716","title":{"rendered":"Nostradamus and 9-11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Smoley, the former editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lumen.org\"><em>Gnosis<\/em><\/a>, was desperate enought to publish a few of my articles during the journal&#8217;s existence.<\/p>\n<p>He has continued writing and editing elsewhere, and his most recent book was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.innerchristianity.com\"><em>The Essential Nostradamus<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The five-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack by Muslim fanatics on the United States has some people saying, &#8220;Nostradamus predicted that the Twin Towers would fall.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not so, says Smoley, in this <a href=\"http:\/\/zodiaclounge.bravehost.com\/Nostradamus.htm\">online interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His assessment of the French prophet: <em>By the way, when Nostradamus did try to forecast something specifically, he was usually wrong. . . . <\/p>\n<p>The cause of his perennial popularity is that, although he was apparently of middling ability in most of the areas he worked\u2014his astrological contemporaries said he didn\u2019t know how to cast a chart\u2014in his way he was a superb surrealist poet. There is something haunting and evocative in his verses, a continuation of the great apocalyptic tradition of Christianity and, before it, Judaism.
