This will be the first pagan temple to be built in the Nordic countries in nearly a thousand years, said the alsherjargo\u00f0i Hilmar \u00d6rn Hilmarsson, head priest of the Icelandic \u00c1satr\u00faarf\u00e9lag, in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruv.is\/frett\/styttist-i-framkvaemdir-vid-asatruarhof\" target=\"_blank\">interview with R\u00daV<\/a> [text and video in Icelandic].<\/p>\n<p>The \u00c1satr\u00faarf\u00e9lag applied for a plot of land to construct a temple in 2006 and was allotted a piece of land in \u00d6skuhl\u00ed\u00f0 in 2008. The 350 square metres (3767 sq ft) temple will have a vaulted ceiling and seat around 250 people.
