The evil witch. The cute witch. What accessories should she wear? What animal is her familiar? And where did she come from?<\/p>\n<p>When I ran across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dolldivine.com\/historical-witch-creator.php\">this website (another update of the old paper doll)<\/a>, I thought of two things right away.<\/p>\n<p>One was a book co-authored by my friend Nikki Bado, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylorpress.com\/Book\/77\/Toying_with_God.html\"><em>Toying with God: The World of Religious Games and Dolls<\/em>,<\/a> all about board games and Muslim Barbie dolls, etc. Nothing Pagan or Crafty in it. But still, is this a &#8220;religious doll&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>And there was Ethan Doyle White&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/ethandoylewhite.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/07\/an-interview-with-prof-ronald-hutton.html\">recent interview with Ronald Hutton<\/a>, in which Hutton discusses his latest project, &#8220;a comprehensive study of the concept of the witch, in a global, ancient and folkloric setting, to understand more fully the context of the<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Early_modern\"> early modern<\/a> witch trials.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If he does not address the &#8220;sexy witch&#8221; archetype, I will be sadly disappointed. This website is &#8220;historical,&#8221; it says so. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>But really, &#8220;cuteness&#8221; did not figure much in the witch trials. It&#8217;s more about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bymLrAXm5Qk\">that old black magic<\/a><\/em> in a contemporary sense.The image of the sexy, magical woman has enormous power, don&#8217;t you think?
