(I have not seen it, being much <a href=\"http:\/\/wildhunt.org\/2014\/03\/occult-television-true-detective-constantine-and-believe.html\">the same situation as Jason Pitzl-Waters<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Religion scholar Philip Jenkins has suggested these two sources\u2014contemporary Satanic Panic and the \u201cweird tales\u201d of pulp horror\u2014are connected.\u00a0He suggests that it was the weird tales authors of the 1920s, notably Lovecraft and Herbert Gorman, who first introduced the idea of secret, murderous cults into the American consciousness.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00b6 Those so-called &#8220;hex signs&#8221; on Pennsylvania Dutch barns? They have little to do with witches and magic, <a href=\"http:\/\/danharms.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/17\/review-hex-signs-myth-and-meaning-in-pennsylvania-dutch-barn-stars\/\">notes librarian of esotericsm Dan Harms in a book review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>From time to time, I\u2019m asked if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Long-Lost-Friend-American-Grimoire\/dp\/0738732540\"><em>The Long-Lost Friend<\/em><\/a> has anything to do with hex signs, those beautiful star and flower figures that decorate the barns across much of eastern Pennsylvania and adjacent areas where German settlers made their homes.\u00a0 The answer is, \u201cNot really,\u201d with a follow-up about the possibility of a mystical link that might or might not be present.\u00a0 <em>Hex Signs<\/em> provides us with answers to these questions, and much more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00b6 Speaking of folklore, Ethan Doyle White notes a <a href=\"http:\/\/ethandoylewhite.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/02\/a-free-online-special-virtual-issue-of.html\">free online special issue of the journal <em>Folklore<\/em><\/a>, focusing on folklore and Paganism.
