{"id":598,"date":"2006-01-18T21:17:00","date_gmt":"2006-01-18T21:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=598"},"modified":"2006-01-18T21:17:00","modified_gmt":"2006-01-18T21:17:00","slug":"598","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=598","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A holy relic of St. Duluoz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first draft of one of the 20th century&#8217;s most influential books <a href=\"http:\/\/sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?file=\/c\/a\/2006\/01\/18\/DDG06GO86G1.DTL\">has arrived in San Francisco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Last week, an airtight black suitcase passed through a security checkpoint at the Indianapolis International Airport on its way to San Francisco. A guard ordered the case opened and found inside a tattered and frayed scroll of yellowed paper 119 feet and 8 inches long.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh I know what this is,&#8221; the baggage screener said to Jim Canary, a conservator who was accompanying the artifact. &#8220;This is one of them religious scrolls, ain&#8217;t it?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>An acquaintance who is studying to become a library technician was asking M. and me at a party last weekend to name ten most influential books in our lives.
