For some reason, I kept working in<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=100\"> references to Sappho<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The process continues. Now a court in the new, improved Islamist Egypt<a href=\"http:\/\/english.alarabiya.net\/articles\/2013\/02\/19\/267118.html\"> has ordered al-Tet, a television channel devoted to belly dancing, shut down. <\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The channel was also accused of airing advertisements that \u201carouse viewers,\u201d sell sexual-enhancement products and promote matchmaking, according to the court\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<p>According to [Baleegh] Hamdy, the court ruling was not based on accurate evidence. \u201cThe judge was supposed to check the facts present in the lawyer\u2019s allegations.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There is not much the court can do about the the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?as_q=al-tet+youtube&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_nlo=&amp;as_nhi=&amp;lr=&amp;cr=&amp;as_qdr=all&amp;as_sitesearch=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;safe=images&amp;tbs=&amp;as_filetype=&amp;as_rights=\">owners&#8217; YouTube channel, however.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nine years ago I wrote a post about Islamist reaction against popular Middle Eastern singers such as Haifa Wehbe.
