{"id":4887,"date":"2012-12-27T05:15:55","date_gmt":"2012-12-27T12:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=4887"},"modified":"2012-12-27T09:19:20","modified_gmt":"2012-12-27T16:19:20","slug":"a-goddess-movement-video-with-something-extra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=4887","title":{"rendered":"A Goddess-Movement Video with Something Extra"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 309px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gaiadancing.com\/images\/gaia_dancing_dvdcopySm.jpg?resize=299%2C420\" width=\"299\" height=\"420\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of Fred Adams&#8217; visionary paintings on the DVD case for &#8220;Dancing with Gaia.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>First, although this is not directly about &#8220;the Goddess movement,&#8221; I want to point out the blogging that Aidan Kelly has been doing, particularly about the history of contemporary Paganism in America, at his Patheos blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/aidankelly\/\"><em>Including Paganism.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another resource is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gaiadancing.com\/\"><em>Dancing with Gaia<\/em><\/a>, a video subtitled &#8220;Earth Energy, Sacred Sexuality, the Return of the Goddess as Gaia . . . a Continuum,&#8221; produced and directed by Jo Carson (82 min.)<\/p>\n<p>A number of the well-known names from the Goddess movement are in, such as the Swedish artist and anarchist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monica_Sj%C3%B6%C3%B6\">Monica Sj\u00f6\u00f6<\/a> (1938\u20132005) to name just one. So it is a valuable work.<\/p>\n<p>What I found particularly interesting, however, was the large amount of 1970s- era footage of the Southern California Pagan group <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Feraferia\">Feraferia<\/a>, founded by the Goddess- visionary artist Fred Adams and his wife, Svetlana.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow the Adamses are left out of most surveys of Goddess religion. Perhaps they were too visionary, too &#8220;cosmic&#8221;\u00a0 . . . and too religious? They just did not fit the narrative\u2014except in Carson&#8217;s case.<\/p>\n<p>But what you can see is home-movie footage of Pagan ritual in the California mountains that must be some of the earliest available, as well as other footage of sites in Europe, the Mediterranean, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><em>Dancing with Gaia <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gaiadancing.com\/purchase.html\">is available on DVD for $19.95<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, although this is not directly about &#8220;the Goddess movement,&#8221; I want to point out the blogging that Aidan Kelly has been doing, particularly about the history of contemporary Paganism in America, at his Patheos blog, Including Paganism.
