{"id":2473,"date":"2011-03-21T09:49:14","date_gmt":"2011-03-21T15:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=2473"},"modified":"2011-03-21T09:50:09","modified_gmt":"2011-03-21T15:50:09","slug":"among-the-writers-style-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=2473","title":{"rendered":"Among the Writer&#8217;s Style Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apstylebook.com\/\"><em> AP Stylebook<\/em><\/a>, the holy book of the American journalist, <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2011\/03\/18\/ap-stylebook-email\/\">is making some changes,<\/a> such as now specifying &#8220;email&#8221; instead of &#8220;e-mail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In my journalist days, I used to tell people that I had it memorized, but now I have moved on.<\/p>\n<p>Since entering academic journal and book editing, I have embraced the true path of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/owl.english.purdue.edu\/owl\/resource\/717\/01\/\">Chicago Manual of Style<\/a>\u2014<\/em>the Torah, nay, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Urantia\"><em>Urantia Book<\/em> <\/a>of style books.<\/p>\n<p>And if there is any question that it does not answer, its editors will issue a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fatwa\"><em>fatwa<\/em><\/a> to the seeker after truth.<\/p>\n<p>I have received one, and I felt blessed.<\/p>\n<p>Still, in deference to the AP and just to keep my hand in, expect to see &#8220;website&#8221; instead of &#8220;Web site&#8221; here in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AP Stylebook, the holy book of the American journalist, is making some changes, such as now specifying &#8220;email&#8221; instead of &#8220;e-mail.&#8221; In my journalist days, I used to tell people that I had it memorized, but now I have moved on.
