{"id":2401,"date":"2011-02-26T13:07:38","date_gmt":"2011-02-26T20:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=2401"},"modified":"2011-02-26T13:07:38","modified_gmt":"2011-02-26T20:07:38","slug":"review-a-new-look-at-enochian-magic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=2401","title":{"rendered":"Review: A New Look at Enochian Magic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Dee (possibly a model for Prospero in Shakespeare&#8217;s <em>The Tempest<\/em>) was one of the most fascinating characters of 16th-century England: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Dee\">mathematician, navigator, occultist, etc.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Working with the trance medium Edward Kelley, Dee produced pages and pages of material, some claimed to be dictated by angels, about the supernatural realms.<\/p>\n<p>Although based in biblical and non-canonical legends of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Enoch_%28Biblical_figure%29\">patriarch Enoch<\/a>, this system of &#8220;Enochian magic,&#8221; complete with its own language (as melodious as Klingon) occupies its own space in the overall scheme of Western magic.<\/p>\n<p>A new book on the system, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gizapyramid.com\/DrJohn.htm\">John DeSalvo&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/store.innertraditions.com\/Contributor.jmdx?action=displayDetail&amp;id=1628\"><em>Decoding the Enochian Secrets<\/em><\/a>, lets you see reproductions of Dee&#8217;s diaries and tables of &#8220;angelic&#8221; letters, photographed from the originals in the British Museum.<\/p>\n<p>But as DeSalvo writes, &#8220;The angels never explained the use or application of these tables of Enoch that were transmitted to Dee and Kelley.
