{"id":2371,"date":"2011-02-18T11:54:42","date_gmt":"2011-02-18T18:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=2371"},"modified":"2011-02-18T11:57:03","modified_gmt":"2011-02-18T18:57:03","slug":"seeking-aar-pagan-studies-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=2371","title":{"rendered":"Seeking AAR Pagan Studies Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After reading<a href=\"http:\/\/rsnonline.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=386&amp;Itemid=464\"> the Call for Papers<\/a>, now is the time to submit proposals for the Contemporary Pagan Studies Group&#8217;s sessions at the American Academy of Religion annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p>We have two topics this year:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>What does Pagan studies offer to academic analysis and critique? <\/em>How  do historical constructions of \u201cpaganism\u201d form or misinform  contemporary Pagan hermeneutics? How do studies of Pagan practices  contribute new notions of religion and\/or new methods to understand  lived religion? Can Paganism be read as a form of religiosity  transcending Wicca? Can the study of Paganism illuminate difficult areas  regarding the body, sexuality, the dead, celebrity \u201cworship,\u201d or  material spirituality?<\/p>\n<p><em>West Coast Paganism in the 1960s\u20131970s.<\/em> Bay Area \u201cocculture\u201d  versus British Wicca? Were there cultural predecessors \u2014 the  German-derived \u201cNature Boy\u201d movement, dietary reformers, sexual  reformers, Beats, other occultists, and esotericists? What was the West  Coast Pagan influence on grassroots organizing and democracy modeling in  America? What was the influence of Alan Watts, Esalen, and the  \u201cCalifornia Cosmology\u201d on Paganism? What theories of new religious  movements were tested against West Coast Paganisms?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aarweb.org\/Meetings\/Annual_Meeting\/Current_Meeting\/default.asp\">meeting will be held\u00a0 in San Francisco<\/a> November 19-22, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>All proposals must be submitted<a href=\"http:\/\/op3.aarweb.org\/\"> through the online system<\/a>.
