But I could add one more: &#8220;Borrowing&#8221; with both hands. Mad eclecticism.<\/p>\n<p>It is\u00a0 illustrated by her embedded video of the &#8220;Celtic rock&#8221; band <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coyoterun.com\/\">Coyote Run<\/a> (American name, post-18th-century Scottish kilts) performing a musical version of Rudyard Kipling&#8217;s &#8220;A Tree Song&#8221; with no credit to him at all. (Maybe there is a credit in the printed liner notes\u2014I hope so.)<\/p>\n<p>Witches have been using that poem ritually since the 1960s, at least. You will find it in the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacred-texts.com\/bos\/bos382.htm\">Internet Book of Shadows<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As a newcomer to the Craft, I\u00a0 actually thought it was indeed old\u00a0 lore\u2014a Pagan survivall! oral tradition!\u2014instead of having been written by the India-born Kipling in the early 1900s, after he finally <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rudyard_Kipling#Sussex\">moved &#8220;home&#8221; to England.<\/a> It was published in <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=8YQEAQAAIAAJ&amp;printsec=frontcover&amp;dq=puck+of+pook%27s+hill&amp;hl=en&amp;ei=yQQMTcujJsGs8AabmqTuDQ&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=book_result&amp;ct=result&amp;resnum=1&amp;ved=0CCMQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\"><em>Puck of Pook&#8217;s Hill<\/em> <\/a>in 1906.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this 14th characteristic, I just laugh when some earnest Pagan starts lecturing about &#8220;cultural appropriation.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Writing at Pantheon, &#8220;the Pagan blog at Patheos.com,&#8221; Star Foster lists &#8220;13 Things I LOVE about Pagans,&#8221; for example, &#8220;Smaller is Better&#8221; and &#8220;Many Gods, Few Masters.&#8221; I agree with all of them.
