Photo: Mani Navasothy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The news prompted a snarky column by one Melanie Phillips at the <em>Daily Mail,<\/em> Britain&#8217;s second-largest newspaper, titled, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/debate\/article-1317490\/Druids-official-religion-Stones-Praise-come.html\">Druids as an official religion<\/a>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Will someone please tell me this is all a joke. Until now, Druids have  been regarded indulgently as a curious remnant of Britain\u2019s ancient  past, a bunch of eccentrics who annually dress up in strange robes at  Stonehenge to celebrate the summer solstice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course there was an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petitiononline.com\/druid1\/petition.html\">online petition<\/a>, which has been or will soon be delivered to the <em>Daily Mail<\/em>.
