{"id":1668,"date":"2010-06-05T21:37:29","date_gmt":"2010-06-06T03:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1668"},"modified":"2010-06-05T21:37:29","modified_gmt":"2010-06-06T03:37:29","slug":"video-gaming-and-lucid-dreaming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1668","title":{"rendered":"Video Gaming and Lucid Dreaming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some researchers think that playing video games may help <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/culture\/video-games-control-dreams-100525.html\">dreamers to have and control lucid dreams more ably.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The first study suggested that people who frequently played video games were more likely to report lucid dreams, observer dreams where they viewed themselves from outside their bodies, and dream control that allowed people to actively influence or change their dream worlds \u2013 qualities suggestive of watching or controlling the action of a video-game character.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">. . . .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/culture\/virtual-face-slap-100513.html\">Virtual reality<\/a> simulators have already been used to help PTSD patients  gradually adjust to the threatening situations that plague their waking and  sleeping thoughts. If [Jayne] Gackenbach&#8217;s hunch is correct, perhaps video games could  also help relieve the need for nightmares.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As I recall, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jaron_Lanier\">Jaron Lanier, the computer scientist credited with inventing the term &#8220;virtual reality,&#8221;<\/a> once said that he had hoped that VR technology would be used to give people practice in navigating after-death states of consciousness, what the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bardo_Thodol\">Tibetan Book of the Dead<\/a> <\/em>calls the <em>bardo <\/em>states.<\/p>\n<p>But that was not what the market wanted, apparently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some researchers think that playing video games may help dreamers to have and control lucid dreams more ably.
