{"id":1656,"date":"2010-06-01T21:02:03","date_gmt":"2010-06-02T03:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1656"},"modified":"2010-06-01T21:18:29","modified_gmt":"2010-06-02T03:18:29","slug":"the-infrared-signature-of-ghosts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1656","title":{"rendered":"The Infrared Signature of Ghosts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over at my other blog,\u00a0 I have been posting<a href=\"http:\/\/natureblog.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/photography\"> examples of wildlife photos <\/a>taken with game cameras (a\/k\/a scout cameras or camera traps).<\/p>\n<p>Seeking to learn more about how their passive infrared (PIR) detectors work, I was browsing the Web and ended up with South Jersey Ghost Research.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, PIR motion sensors can be used for ghost-hunting. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theghosthunterstore.com\/motion-tut.html\">Here is a tutorial, using the term loosely<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, their diagram makes no sense. An animal as small as a mouse <em>can<\/em> trip a camera. I have seen it happen. Squirrels <a href=\"http:\/\/natureblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/10\/hunters-walk-in-rain-and-mist.html\">definitely<\/a> will do so. And as for cats, what is in the lower right corner of th<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theghosthunterstore.com\/motion.html\">e PIR-activated camera photo on this page at the Ghosthunter Store site<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the Ghosthunter Store site confidently proclaims, &#8220;When a PIR Motion Sensor detects movement in an area where there isn\u2019t anything visible moving, you have a major unexplainable paranormal event.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(Unless something <em>did <\/em>move but was not captured due to digital shutter lag, which happens all the time, particularly in less-fancy cameras.)<\/p>\n<p>Except &#8230; I thought that ghosts traditionally were associated with unexplained cold spots in buildings.
