I could go on.<\/p>\n<p>Now M. and I are back from watching the new <i><a href=\"http:\/\/sherlock-holmes-movie.warnerbros.com\/\">Sherlock Holmes<\/a><\/i>, which felt like &#8220;screenplay by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danbrown.com\/%20\">Dan Brown<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dion_Fortune\">Dion Fortune<\/a>, from the stories by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arthur_Conan_Doyle\">Arthur Conan Doyle<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The villain, Lord Blackwood, is a cross between <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aleister_Crowley\">Aleister Crowley <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Benito_Mussolini\">Benito Mussolini<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Historians of costume, if you are out there: do not Irene Adler&#8217;s dresses with the elaborate bustles seem about 15-20 years out of date for the time of the movie? (I date it to the late 1880s, since <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_bridge\">Tower Bridge<\/a> is under construction, assuming that is the bridge in the movie.<\/p>\n<p>Good movie though, with lots of little bits of cinematic homage to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canon_of_Sherlock_Holmes\">the canon<\/a>,&#8221; such as the pocket watch with pawnbrokers&#8217; marks or the steam launch on the Thames.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is it with secret societies and magical orders in the movies these days?
