You can say &#8220;in our minds so be it&#8221; in unison if you like.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Prayer for the Great Family<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gratitude to Mother Earth, sailing through night and day\u2014<br \/>\nand to her soil: rich, rare and sweet<br \/>\n<em>in our minds so be it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gratitude to Plants, the sun-facing, light-changing leaf<br \/>\nand fine root-hairs; standing still through wind<br \/>\nand rain; their dance is in the flowering spiral grain<br \/>\n<em>in our minds so be it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gratitude to Air, bearing the soaring Swift and silent<br \/>\nOwl at dawn. Breath of our song<br \/>\nclear spirit breeze<br \/>\n<em>in our minds so be it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gratitude to Wild Beings, our brothers, teaching secrets,<br \/>\nfreedoms, and ways; who share with us their milk;<br \/>\nself-complete, brave and aware<br \/>\n<em>in our minds so be it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gratitude to Water: clouds, lakes, rivers, glaciers;<br \/>\nholding or releasing; streaming through all<br \/>\nour bodies salty seas<br \/>\n<em>in our minds so be it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gratitude to the Sun: blinding pulsing light through<br \/>\ntrunks of trees, through mists, warming caves where<br \/>\nbears and snakes sleep\u2014 he who wakes us\u2014<br \/>\n<em>in our minds so be it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gratitude to the Great Sky<br \/>\nwho holds billions of stars\u2014 and goes yet beyond that\u2014<br \/>\nbeyond all powers, and thoughts and yet is within us\u2014<br \/>\nGrandfather Space. The Mind is his Wife.<br \/>\n<em>so be it.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Snyder has been influential in my life since I was in high school, as a poet and in a sort of &#8220;What would Gary do?&#8221; kind of way.((And we went to the same college, for what that is worth.)) <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gary_Snyder\">He is an old man now, 91, I think.<\/a> He won&#8217;t be around forever.
