{"id":1257,"date":"2009-11-26T02:50:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-26T02:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1257"},"modified":"2009-11-26T02:50:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-26T02:50:00","slug":"blogging-hermits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1257","title":{"rendered":"Blogging Hermits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is it with blogging hermits\u2014or quasi-hermits?<\/p>\n<p>Would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.transcendentalists.com\/1thorea.html\">Henry David Thoreau<\/a> have had a blog? I am sure of it. Anyone who would edit his autobiography so that two years of experience fit neatly into one literary year has demonstrated the capability of self-romanticizing that blogging requires.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s <i>Denver Post<\/i> had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/search\/ci_13843274\">long piece about a man named Daniel Suelo<\/a> who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah, never handles money, dumpster-dives, etc.\u2014and <a href=\"http:\/\/zerocurrency.blogspot.com\/\">blogs about his life,<\/a> courtesy of the long-suffering local librarians. (Somebody tell him that white-on-black fonts offer poor readability.)<\/p>\n<p>I can see<a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/search\/ci_13843274\"> Diogenes the Cynic<\/a> updating his blog at the public library too: &#8220;inabarrel.blogspot.com.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And there are others.<\/p>\n<p>Lately I have been reading <a href=\"http:\/\/asthecrowflies.org\/\">As The Crow Flies<\/a>, who offers this thought:<\/p>\n<p><i>If you want to be alone, it\u2019s important to know, you can never get far enough away;&nbsp; humans and their noise producing machines are everywhere.&nbsp;&nbsp; One thought that helps me, is to think of myself as an alien dropped off on a planet of apes.&nbsp;&nbsp; Then I can just sit back and enjoy the show\u2014like going to the zoo.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>But the post that sold me on her blog <a href=\"http:\/\/asthecrowflies.org\/2009\/11\/10\/hermit-thoughts\/\">is this one<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>I cannot get it out of my mind. Maybe it&#8217;s because M. and I often go several days without talking to anyone else in person (not counting email).
