{"id":12154,"date":"2021-04-05T16:21:30","date_gmt":"2021-04-05T22:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=12154"},"modified":"2021-04-05T16:21:30","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T22:21:30","slug":"joining-folklore-the-electronic-journal-of-folklore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=12154","title":{"rendered":"Joining Folklore: The Electronic Journal of Folklore"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_12155\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12155\" class=\"wp-image-12155 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.chasclifton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/estonian-literary-museum.jpg?resize=300%2C174&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.chasclifton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/estonian-literary-museum.jpg?resize=300%2C174&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.chasclifton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/estonian-literary-museum.jpg?resize=150%2C87&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.chasclifton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/estonian-literary-museum.jpg?w=474&amp;ssl=1 474w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12155\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Estonian Literary Museum, Tartu<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last month I accepted an invitation to join the editorial board of <em>Folklore: The Electronic Journal of Folklore<\/em>, which is published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Estonian_Literary_Museum\">Estonian Literary Museum<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tartu\">city of Tartu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They have not yet updated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.folklore.ee\/folklore\/\">the website,<\/a> but you know how that goes.<\/p>\n<p>Because <em>Folklore<\/em> is government-supported and Web-only, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.folklore.ee\/folklore\/ksisu.htm#rec\">you can read the contents online.<\/a> The articles are in English\u2014otherwise I would not be much use to them, nor would the other board members from the USA, Ireland, India . . .<\/p>\n<p>Here, for example, is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.folklore.ee\/folklore\/vol2\/docdoc.htm\">The Transmission of Knowledge among Estonian Witch Doctors<\/a>,&#8221; by the editor, Mare K\u00f5iva, the one who invited me.<\/p>\n<p>It is not all about Estonia, however; I see articles from the other Baltic nations and from Finland, Russia, Ireland, and elsewhere. And you will find occasional articles on native Paganism, shamanism, etc.<\/p>\n<p>My family has no Baltic corrections, although my oldest sister spent the last couple of years of her life in Kaunas, Lithuania, which is too long a story to tell here.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12156 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.chasclifton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/estonian-literary-museum-interior.jpg?resize=290%2C197&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"197\" \/>It would be great to go there sometime, pick a few mushrooms, and read or write in a room like this one.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I could drop in on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/03\/us\/politics\/cyber-command-elections-estonia.html\">the secret cyberforce<\/a>. They probably have already read this post.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/europe\/new-us-special-operations-site-activated-in-heart-of-the-baltics-1.654032\">Our guys in Multicam are there too.<\/a> You didn&#8217;t know?
