{"id":1189,"date":"2009-08-12T23:18:00","date_gmt":"2009-08-12T23:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1189"},"modified":"2009-08-12T23:18:00","modified_gmt":"2009-08-12T23:18:00","slug":"pagan-content-on-patheos-john-muir-was-pagan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1189","title":{"rendered":"Pagan Content on Patheos: John Muir was Pagan??"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>USA Today&#8217;s<\/em> religion blogger, Cathy Lynn Gross, visits the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\">Patheos<\/a> religion web site and discovers (shock!) that it has a <a href=\"http:\/\/content.usatoday.com\/communities\/religion\/post\/2009\/08\/68496203\/1\">Pagan portal with actual Pagan content<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article that catches her attention is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/Resources\/Additional-Resources\/John-Muir-Was-a-Pagan.html\">John Muir was a Pagan<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I admire <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Muir\">John Muir<\/a>, but I do not see him as a capital-P Pagan, follower of a non-monotheistic religion. He might well have been a small-P &#8220;pagan&#8221;&#8211; a non-Christian, a pantheist.<\/p>\n<p>Get over to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\">Patheos<\/a> and stir things up before they shut it down. I wonder if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/headlines\/ci_12335039\">starting a religion portal in the midst of a recession <\/a>was a good business plan &#8212; were the Brunnicks counting on people to turn to religion when their money ran out?
