It premiered in Cannes in 1990 to &#8220;a polite but muted reception.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A series of unconnected stories, its themes as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dreams_(1990_film)\">childhood, spirituality, art, death, universal disasters and man&#8217;s mistakes regarding the world.<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a Pagan, I notice that it opens and closes with processions, which I think are the most elementary form of ritual, more basic even than ritual circles. The first procession, however, is not meant for human eyes. It is a wedding procession of the &#8220;foxes&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kitsune\">Japanese, <em>kitsune<\/em><\/a>). I am no expert on Japanese lore, but they seem in what I have read to act a lot like the Fair Folk.
