He later went on to a career in finance \u2014 &#8220;in the City&#8221; as the British would say,\u00a0 the equivalent to &#8220;on Wall Street&#8221; for an American.<\/p>\n<p>He was also a key resource for the American scholar of Wiccan history Aidan Kelly in writing <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1870450582\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1870450582&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=soutrocknatub-20&amp;linkId=8e429ded2f9b86e5f4fdfae37131f333\">Inventing Witchcraft: A Case Study in the Creation of a New Religion<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sit back: there is lots here on Gardnerian Wicca in the 1950s, Gardner&#8217;s own lack of charisma by religious-leader standards and his puckish sense of humor, why the North American Gardnerians went wrong in trying to enshrine <em>one <\/em>Book of Shadows, and Lamond&#8217;s own thoughts on how patriarchal monotheism came to dominate the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First of all, &#8220;Robert&#8221; is Frederic Lamond, one of Gerald Gardner&#8217;s early coveners\u2014his mundane name is not exactly oathbound material these days, now that he has written books and has his own Wikipedia page.
