{"id":1056,"date":"2008-09-01T23:28:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-01T23:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1056"},"modified":"2008-09-01T23:28:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-01T23:28:00","slug":"lucifer-rising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=1056","title":{"rendered":"Lucifer Rising"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took a little trip back into the 1970s today to watch occult\/underground filmmaker Kenneth Anger&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0066019\/\"><em>Lucifer Rising<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is not about Satanism but more about invoking energies of nature, a highly symbolic short film with not a word of dialog on the soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p>Or you could say that it is about the aesthetics of ceremonial magick. <\/p>\n<p>You can watch a low-quality version <a href=\"http:\/\/video.google.com\/videoplay?docid=1710883728662460695\">online<\/a>, but I rented it as part of a Kenneth Anger collection from Netflix.<\/p>\n<p>Even the <a href=\"http:\/\/home.comcast.net\/~flickhead\/Lucifer-Rising.html\">story of its music<\/a> is a masterpiece of Psychedelic Age gossip, involving a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bobby_Beausoleil\">composer<\/a> imprisoned for murder as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Manson\">Manson Family<\/a>, after Anger&#8217;s first choice, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, failed to deliver.<\/p>\n<p>Another article on Anger&#8217;s use of color symbolism is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sensesofcinema.com\/contents\/05\/34\/invocation_demon_brother.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I took a little trip back into the 1970s today to watch occult\/underground filmmaker Kenneth Anger&#8217;s Lucifer Rising.
