From the Colorado Springs Independent, the weekly that gets all the cannabis advertising because the chain-owned daily paper won&#8217;t touch it: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csindy.com\/coloradosprings\/meet-colorados-high-priestess-of-cannabis\/Content?oid=14467869\">Meet Colorado&#8217;s High Priestess of Cannabis<\/a>.&#8221; Yes, it&#8217;s that favorite form of American creativity: <em>Let&#8217;s start a church!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Catholic News Agency views the number of self-proclaimed witches with alarm: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/more-than-a-million-americans-say-they-are-witches-31750\">Number of Americans who say they are witches is on the rise<\/a>.&#8221; With video.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 If you dare . . . &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/wgntv.com\/2018\/10\/29\/go-inside-a-wiccan-ceremony\/\">Go inside a Wiccan ceremony<\/a>.&#8221; Also with video. Fairly mild sauce, actually.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It&#8217;s the <em>Guardian <\/em>again: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2018\/oct\/30\/the-season-of-the-witch-how-sabrina-and-co-are-casting-their-spell-over-tv\">The season of the witch: how Sabrina and co [<em>sic<\/em>] are casting their spell over TV<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;Diverse, digitally savvy and definitely feminist&#8221; \u2014 yes, that&#8217;s all it takes to be a media witch.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 And on public [<em>sic<\/em>] radio, &#8220;When you hear the word \u2018witch,\u2019 what does your mind conjure?&#8221; Damn, that&#8217;s clever writing. This time it&#8217;s the 1A show: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/the1a.org\/shows\/2018-10-31\/season-of-the-witch\">Hex in Effect: Why Witches are Back<\/a>.&#8221; (Were we gone? Did I miss that memo?) A teaser for the radio show, which you can listen to if you have unlimited earbuds time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 On Halloween, Vox.com covered the Sephora witch-kit kerfuffle, which is already old news. &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/the-goods\/2018\/10\/31\/18042850\/sephora-witch-kit-sage-urban-outfitters-magic-tarot\">The occult is having a moment. Companies want in, but not if witches can help it<\/a>.&#8221; So much is wrong with this. Is there something measurable called &#8220;the occult&#8221;?\u00a0 Sigh. I wanted to list everything<em> Vox<\/em> gets wrong, I would need a bigger blog. At least <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theonion.com\/\">The Onion<\/a> <\/em>tells you that it is non-serious. Now they are &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/why-millennials-are-ditching-religion-for-witchcraft-and-astrology-2017-10-20\">ditching religion for witchcraft and astrology<\/a>.&#8221; I could be snarky and say, &#8220;Hey, the Seventies called and they want their headlines back.&#8221; Or I could say that this is something that is always going on. Decades. Centuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-6337627\/Hedge-witches-mass-hexing-Stunning-new-photos-reveal-faces-modern-witchcraft-America.html\">The <em>Daily Mail <\/em>just goes for the photo shoot. If you don&#8217;t look like these &#8220;actresses, authors, and a technician,&#8221;\u00a0 are you a real witch?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At least the photographer was inspired by a a worthwhile book, Stacy Schiff&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.chasclifton.com\/?p=9327\"><em>The Witches: Suspicion, Betrayal, and Hysteria in 1692.<\/em><\/a> (What does it say that the <em>Daily Mail <\/em>cannot even get a book title right?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link fixed \u2014 sorry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t go away.
