• A recently discovered statue described as the god Odin and welcomed by some reconstructionist Norse Pagans, is–by Viking Period artistic conventions–either a woman or the goddess Freya, says a Swedish archaeologist.

• Something that I wish more people would think about about: When is a wild animal an omen, and when is it just a wild animal?

The thing that I've learned about animals in the wild being omens is that I can't figure out what they are omens of.

As for the statue being Odin or Freyja, I tend to pay attention to the art specialists. But, then, some of my Norse friends have suggested that magic folk did crossdress.

    Both?

I knew someone would jump in with a comment about cross-dressing. 😉

Ask "your Norse friends" what their art-historical and/or literary evidence is–from a perspective of a thousand years later. I would be curious.
